Hmm, I think I will have to try your suggestion Lea Nikkaya, now to find a headset. Thanks.

Hello MechaG2, I have the exact same problem as you, I was gone for a week and of course everyone is online:). Any way I see you already got some suggestions, I tried that sound trick, too no avail.

Really? I have a headset with a built-in mic, but not a stand alone mic. I'll give it a shot, though. Thanks. :)

I need some help, as well. I really wanted to play Battlefront II again. So I installed it on my PC (without any problems; I can even start up the game, access the menus, etc. without any trouble either), but when I load up a match, the game CTDs as soon as I join.

I tried to find a fix for this issue on the web, but with no luck. Eventually I came across something interesting: I disabled the sound in the options menu and all of a sudden I can start playing without any problems! ...except there's no sound. Can anyone help me? I'm so close to getting Battlefront II working properly.

My PC's Specs:
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.60 GHz
ATi Radeon HD 5750
8GB DDR2 Dual Channel RAM

I was out camping for a few days so I wasn't able to get back to you. My BFII CD was horribly scratched all around the edge (now i think this was my old computers doing because i could play the game before on the old comp. but one day i hit the disk tray, hard, when BFII was sliding in, after this none of my games would play on the old comp. everything would go horribly wrong with the graphics and the only prob. i could seem to find was the nV4_disp. driver, this is old news though because that PC is gone) I thought the scratches was the source of this problem, but i already had the disk resurfaced and reinstalled the game a couple of weeks ago.

As far as I know my friend has a Gateway computer, pretty sure windows 7/might be Vista, maybe a couple months under a year old, I don't remember the model so I'll give him a call later.

On the lighter side, don't you love it when things fix and solve themselves :) your comment on your problem reminded me of StarWars The Force Unleashed II, I was stuck on a stupid "challenge" because i wanted to Ace the game on my 360, i left it for 5 months, came back and beat it on the first try :)

Thanks, DarthDustino

Hmm I am using windows 7 too,
but it did not recognize Direct X (or something like that)
So i could install many times but it always told me i must install it
So I bypassed the first "start game" menu screen, then it kept on crashing,
The prop solved itself after like 2 months or more i didnt play then it worked
;-)

Now look on the CD if there are any marks on the CD
--> This could be a reason, for it couldn't have installed something,
or what I think, it downloaded a broken Map.
But I will not tell u to buy a new CD.

Ur Friend has what computer?

When the the battle loads all it does is go to solid black flickers and pops to the desktop. I have not downloaded any editions except for update1.1 which was a long time ago, which i don't even remember updating, the computer just probably did it. I have tried reinstalling the game 4 times, no difference. Yes I am using a computer. Yes I am using windows 7 HP. Yes I have reinstalled. I have TONS of space on my drives, both C and Storage, 20GB + in C and 600GB+ in storage. It could have something to do with the graphic reader, i don't know it's new, newer stuff tends to fail pretty hard faster than the good old old stuff, i did have a company called Northern Computer Innovations Ltd. custom make my PC because it's a hell a lot cheaper than buying some random package at a store. I Looked thru my computer and it says that everything is fine, heh, thats what my old computer said, before it decided to die on me, 3 years ago. Although, is it possible that the disk might just be ffed, like corrupted by the old computer because when I'd go to play BFII on the older one the battle would pixelate horribly and crash my actual computer, but that had something to do with the Niv_4 disp. just thought i'd might mention that, also the disk wouldn't work at my friends PC either, exact same probs.?????????

Thanks for your time.

(hope i write it right) compactible mode
Its under options
That is crazy.... Hmm
Does it load like do u see the dots or does it crash right after?
I used a cheat software once, and there were new maps, but after a while it started crashing and i could only play the new ones!
Did u download any additions?
Hmmm....
Possibilitys:
  • Something wrong with the graphic reader
-the Maps can't be read by SWBF2
-the Maps are broken, maybe during installation

1. U are using a computer?
2. U are usind windows 7
3. Did u reinstall?
4. Do u have much space on ur disk?

I changed all of the games graphics to low and fooled around with the resolution for awhile. Unfortunately, this didn't help it. As for details, what do you need?
I tried playing as administrator and it still crashed.
And what is comp. mode? it sounds familiar and I think I was checking that out last night, but that was 18 hours without sleep, it's a little fuzzy. So, I will not be home for 2-3 days after tomorrow morning. Thx for the help so far.

DarthDustino

Oh, i just remembered how to get to compatibility mode, but I'm not sure which one to pick??
Thanks. DD

It sometimes happens that the game does not recognize the graphics software,
Try changing graphics in the options menu to low and test different screen formats,
If problem persists, i have couple of thoughts.
If u can give me more details....
Try running as admin and/or in comp. mode

Thanks for the info, but I have already looked at the sys. check before and I surpass the requirements. I also have already installed Direct X during the installation prompt. Thanks anyways though.

This is a known problem,
at the start run a system check to check if u have the necessary graphic requirements, after that install direct X
I need to check something that might help too, but try this and thrn tell me if it works or not?

Hello, I have just recently got a new computer and wanted to download a few of my older games, including the classic BFII. The game installed without a hitch and i can access the all the game menus but as soon as I try to play either Instant Action or Campaign, the game spontaneously crashes back to the desktop with no error message. WTF!!??. I was searching online and found a few people with similar problems but not quite what I had. any help would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated as I REALLY need my BFII fix.
