How do I get past the three legged spider droid in level one?

My son is playing level one on a Wii. Anakin and Asoca are battling the Tri-Droid with the three spider like legs. Yoda says "When the foot becomes stuck, ready you must be, use the Force to hold its leg".
How do we get past this Tri-Droid? We have tried touching the Z and nothing works. This makes for a very sad boy.
