I'm sorry but i think you do not consider one thing...MI1 and MI2 are the real episodes of the saga...you have to change CMI and EMI characters to make them like the first 2 games and not viceversa!!!

I don't think saying switch to old school is a copout. But Guyper - you have mad photoshop skills!
Ultimately the design came from the fact that Guybrush's hair needed to represent his age, and work in concert with both CMI and EMI, as well as the new Telltale game. The designers felt this matched that progression.
However, I have to say it's great that you guys who have such an attention to detail love the backgrounds. That's the part I think we were most nervous about - changing those scenes that have become incredibly iconic in our minds. So we gladly accept your criticism, and we are flattered by your praise!

Thanks for hearing all our fanboy grievances. We can be pretty annoying about small stuff like this, but it's only out of devotion to the great series we are all grateful for, and the hard work that you do to make it possible. I can't tell you how thrilled I am about this re-release and the new series. I was about 11 or 12 when I first played Monkey Island, and to me it was like what kids in 1977 experienced with Star Wars. I played it with a group of my school friends, and we even formed a fan club, complete with a clubhouse decked out in Monkey Island posters and other piratey decorations generously sent to us as gifts from LucasArts. We were thrilled! We even built a working Grog machine. It really was a fun childhood experience all made possible by our love of LucasArts games. Thanks for allowing me to re-live it again!

When I was ten years old, I played Monkey Island for the first time, sitting next to my little brother. It was a life changing experience. If anyone understands fanboy grievances, it would be me - I love this game. But I can also promise you everyone on the team is as well. It's essentially a Lucasarts sponsored fan-project. And that's been pretty cool to see

I agree with the OP. When I saw the trailer for the special edition, the only thing I didn't like was the Guybrush model. He looks like a pre-pubescent albino with Down's Syndrome, or possibly advanced leukemia.
However, as for the topic of "Save Guybrush," that may just be what LucasArts has done. Releasing this game marks LA's first digital download of a game, and licensing the rights to Tell Tale will inject new life into the franchise and keep it going for years to come. "Save Guybrush" may just be right.

Lol! That sounds very cool, JediMudkip. I have to say though: What's with all the concern about making Guybrush look the "right age"? As long as he doesn't look OLD, then it's fine. It's like Luke Skywalker in the original movie -- he was in that late-teens/early 20s age bracket... the one that's been successfully played by actors and actresses into their late 20s/early 30s for years! The main thing was that he wasn't in the "backwards baseball-cap wearing/obnoxious teenager" age: Young people see themselves as older, and older people don't like seeing annoying teenagers. MI is the same: Guybrush exists in this "timeless" age-bracket. Unless there's a reason to alter his age for the plot (flashbacks/flash-forwards), then he's essentially exactly the same character in all four games - The same way The Simpsons haven't aged. The most important thing is that he's likeable! What I'm saying is: Providing Guybrush doesn't look in his mid-to-late 30's (ie. oddly older), you're all good! Can you fix his in-game SPRITE now? (The close-ups cutaways look fine!)

Wow, there are some great photoshops here that dramatically improve the new Guybrush's likeability. I especially like the one that has simply put his old Steve Purcell haircut on top. There can't be that many art assets in the code, and the game isn't going to release for at least a month, I can't understand why LucasArts wouldn't consider giving it a quick fix! Because honestly, it seems it's the hardcore Monkey fans who don't like it, and we're the ones who will all buy the game instantly. Newcomers may simply be turned off by the artwork of the new Guybrush and never "get into it" like we did way back when...

I don't understand it, either. If it's something that might boost sales (through new players LIKING Guybrush more), then it seems like a good investment ??
The background artwork is very different. The new characters look very different. The close-ups look very different... Hardly anyone is complaining about them! It's not as if we die-hards are just "stuck in our ways"... We like the new look! Buy Guybrush is UNLIKEABLE (at least his SPRITE is). I bet you'd get the same response from new players, too.

Hey guys, I found out that there are two serious faults in the current Guybrush sprite and I decided to give it a fix. What I have fixed are Guybrush' height (Made him at the same height with Elaine, like in the original) and his long freakin' giraffe neck. If you like it, please vote for it, and hopefully Lucasarts will listen. Lucasarts' current sprite: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/Guyper/LucasGuybrus.jpgThe fixed sprite: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/Guyper/Marlin-Guybrush.jpgMy advice to Lucasarts would be DO NOT release the game until Guybrush sprite gets fixed otherwise, in my opinion, that would be a disrespect to the original team's work on it. What made the fans love the original game were not just the story and humor but also the likeable protagonist, Guybrush, thanks to the art of Steve Purcell and Mark Ferrari.
