Hi everyone, with so many questions coming in about TFU, I've created this tread to answer all of your inquiries. Keep in mind, I can't answer everything, but I'll do my best to answer what I can. Also, here are a few ground rules:

If you have a question about the game, please check the FAQ for an answer before you ask it. More than likely, someone has asked your question and I've given out an answer. Repeated questions will not be answered, so save yourself some time by giving the list a quick read.

Also, I know lots of people have asked me about a PC version of the game. I realize that no matter how I phrase this, PC gamers will be unhappy. But wehn the game ships in September, there will not be a PC version. I wish I could get into the details of "why" there isn't going to be a PC version, but honestly, I just don't have the information. As such, all PC-related questions will not be answered.

Lastly, keep in mind that I won't be able to divulge every single last detail about the game. I'd love to spill the beans on how many different levels there are, how many combo attacks there are, and how many different lightsaber modifciations you can utilize. I'd love to, but I can't. So, for all you folks out there looking for very, very specific details, I can't promise an answer.

With all that out of the way, below is the on-going Q&A for The Force Unleashed. Each day I'll be updating the list with new answers, so check back often to see if your questions make the cut! And, don't forget to submit questions in the official thread!

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

I guess my only question is why is it going to be 6 months until the game is released, when the game appears to be pretty much finished now?

The entire TFU team is dedicated to making sure that when you go out and buy the game, you?re getting the best, most polished, and exciting experience possible. As such, they?re hard at work making sure that the game is going to be just that ? the best it can be.

This may sound stupid but are you a LucasArts employee with the TFU team? We've been told repeatedly that LucasArts employees do not read or post on these boards.

Yep, I?m a LucasArts employee in the public relations department. I?ve bee a life-long Star Wars and video game player, too!

Is there any starship combat?

Nope, there?s no starship combat.

What types of customization are there (lightsaber, fighting styles, ship stuff, etc.)

While there aren?t specific fighting styles, like what you might find in a fighting game, combat in TFU is quite varied with lightsaber combo attacks and Force powers. You can modify your lightsaber as you progress through the game to include various effects, and coupled with the ability to use Force powers in combat create a wide number of different fighting options.

Are there any cheats other than what we already know? I'm hoping for infinite health and force and maybe the ability to play through as... GEORGE LUCAS!

While I can pretty much assure you that a secret George Lucas playable character isn?t going to happen, I can say that I?m sure the team will be putting in some goodies for gamers to discover.

Do you ever play as PROXY or Juno?

Nope, the Secret Apprentice is the main playable character, but be sure to watch the special TFU segment on Spike TV on Sunday to learn a little secret we?re all very excited about.

Is DMM applied to everything in the game?

DMM is applied mainly to objects that you?d expect to be breakable. So, take a metal door standing between you and your objective. That metal door, when pushed open with the Force, will bend and contort just as it would in real life.

What's the triangle button on the PS3 used for? Is it another lightsaber button, does it control another Force power, or can't you tell us that yet?

Sorry, but I can?t yet divulge any information on the controls.

Is the single player mode long, as in, about 14 or so missions (maybe more)?

We?re confident that the game?s length will satisfy the players out there. But, I can?t get into specifics on how many levels there are.

Can you tell us about how many lightsaber combos there will be, or will that remain a secret for now?

The second part of your question hits the nail on the head.

Can you tell us about how many Force powers/combos there will be, or will that remain a secret for now as well?

See the above response for an answer to this question, too.

Are the enemies you face pretty tough, especially the bosses?

Enemies in TFU are tough, whether you?re facing off against Stormtroopers or single-handedly bringing down a Rancor. But obviously, the larger the enemy is, the harder it will be to defeat. And don?t forget, you?ll also be squaring off against some Jedi Masters, who don?t go down without a fight!

Can you use Force punt on other things like Stormtroopers, not just small people like Ugnaughts ,like it shows in the demonstration video on the site?

While you can't go Force Punting everything in your path, you can use the move on creatures of smaller stature.

Finally, can you throw a guy with your lightsaber still stuck in him like the old trailer shows?

Yep, that's one of my favorite lightsaber/Force power combos!

Will the levels be large and have split screens or will they be in a circular arena type thing?

Multiplayer in the Wii version is contained in one screen, so there?s no split-screen. The game?s dynamic camera does a great job of zooming in and out of what?s going on during combat to keep the pace of the battle very exciting.

How many people are allowed on multiplayer?

Two players can face off against each other in the Wii version of the game, while both the DS and PSP support four-player action.

Will there be a sandbox mode in any of the versions (I have a xbox 360) because some of the demonstrations seem that the player is flying in mid air and he spawns storm troopers and throws them also you could reset digimatter wood and stuff stuck to things so? sanbox mode?

The video?s you remember is from a tech demo originally debuted at E3 awhile back. So, to answer your question, no, you can?t spawn Stromtrooopers or reset the DMM or euphoria. Also, the game is set up to deliver a compelling story and gameplay experience, so there?s no sandbox mode or open world a la GTA. But, we?re confident that you?ll find the experience to be very exciting.

Customization will include clothes and lightsaber color modifications, right?

Correct, you can alter the color and powers of your lightsaber, as well as unlock special costumes for the Secret Apprentice.

Any chance of a possible multiplayer mode for the 360/PS3 versions at a later date?

Honestly, I have no idea whether multiplayer is a possibility in the future. But I do know that when the game ships in September, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will deliver one heck of an exciting single-player experience.

Does the Apprentice play football perchance or maybe some other sport ? Or did he just ace physical education?

The Secret Apprentice doesn?t play any sports as far as I know, outside of the occasional Ugnaught punting competition!

Where does the Secret Aprentice stand against the Ancient Sith Lords like Tulak Hord and the others buried on Korriban? Is he a match for them, does he surpass them, or does he not even come close?

He would totally destroy them. Completely. With little or no remorse.

Finaly, Ninjas or Pirates?

Neither. Secret Apprentices.

Will the Wii version's graphics be as good as the other versions of the game?

Developer Krome Studios is doing a great job at not only delivering a compelling experience on the Wii using the Wii remote and nunchuck to pull off lightsaber attacks and Force powers. They?re also spending lots of time making sure that the
Wii version looks just as good as it plays. I?ve seen the game and am confident that visually, it?ll definitely be impressive.

Will the Wii version of the game include DMM and euphoria?

The Wii version of the game will not included DMM or euphoria. But, the developer, Krome Studios, has done an excellent job of creating a TFU experience on the Wii that is filled with all the action and destruction found in the other versions.

Can you pick up weapons dropped by enemies?

The Secret Apprentice can?t pick up blasters or other weapons from defeated enemies. But, remember that the he does have a wide number of combat moves with both his lightsaber and Force powers, each of which can be strung together to create a large number of different attack combos.

Hey Denger how much do you get paid and do you get to play the game everyday?

Despite what you all may think, I don?t spend all day here answering questions on the boards (but I do spend quite a bit of time doing that). As far as the pay goes, can?t answer that for obvious reasons. But, I do get to see and experience the game on a daily basis.

How long did it take to create one character, such as Proxy?

The process that goes into creating a character, including Proxy, takes quite a bit of time. While I can?t give you a total day amount, I can say that the character creation process is one that involves many different team members, from designers to script writers to audio engineers. One of the greatest thing about the TFU team is that every team member has a say and influence in how various aspects of the game come together, and this extends into the characters.

In some of the gameplay videos the Secret Apprentice is being shot at by Stormtroopers, but the laser blasts have no effect on the character and seem to go right through him. Is this how final gameplay will look, or is it too going to be updated?

Simple answer, when you take damage, you?ll see it translate as such on-screen. Long answer, when putting together videos used for marketing purposes, sometimes developers will turn on a God Mode or other debug tool to make sure they can capture a cool shot or action sequence without the pesky risk of getting blown to bits in the process. So, if you see a video where it looks like blaster shots go right through the Secret Apprentice, don?t worry, it?s not going to be like that in the final product.

Are we going to see these guys do lots of random things with euphoria, or is it just duck, dive, and grab?

euphoria is being used to imbue enemies with behavioral patterns and actions to provide them with more life-like reactions to what?s going on around them. This includes them being able to duck out of the way, dive, and grab onto anything they can when faced with a physical threat. In short, enemies will do what they can to take them out of harm?s way. They won?t, however, do the following: play chess, take a nap, make and eat a sandwich, dance or sing.

Will there be a new trailer shown sometime on Spike this month? They said they would show a new one all month, but so far, nothing.

Spike TV will be airing special segments dedicated to The Force Unleashed. These aren?t new trailers for the game, but are programs designed to introduce you (and everyone else out there) to some of the cool features in the game. But, they do contain new gameplay footage, so be sure to check them out!

Is the story kick-a** in your opinion? If you can't tell me this as well, I understand.

This is a great question! Well, I may be biased, but I personally think that the story in The Force Unleashed is excellent, and one that will give both the hardcore and casual Star Wars fans something to get very excited about. The TFU team worked closely with George Lucas to create a storyline that bridges the gap between Episode III and Episode IV, and I?m confident that everyone out there will find it just as exciting all of us here at LucasArts.

So what you mean when you say whatever you expect to break will break with DMM in the game is that almost everything can break, right? If I'm not right, please respond.

While having a game where everything around you could be broken into pieces would be compelling, naturally, that would cause a few too many problems from a gameplay perspective. DMM is applied to objects that you would expect to be breakable, such as glass, wood, and certain metal objects. Objects such as these will react to your presence with a very high degree of realism. But, you can?t go slicing your way through walls and such.

Finally, I've heard that the SA can use Force Choke? Is this correct? Of course, I understand if you can't tell me this yet as well.

You?ve all probably seen the Darth Vader video segment that aired on Spike TV on Sunday. In the segment, we all get the chance to see Darth Vader Force Choke a few unlucky Wookiee warriors. But to fill everyone in, Force Choke is a power exclusive to Darth Vader. The Secret Apprentice doesn?t have this power, but instead gets to utilize the very enjoyable Force Lightning power. Zap!

What's the difference between the 360 and PS3 versions?

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are identical in sound, video, gameplay, and story.

So is the game like Mass Effect, where every decision you make in the levels could influence how the game plays out?

Not quite. While The Force Unleashed offers intriguing experiences and decisions to make, it?s first and foremost an action/adventure game.

Is the gameplay going to be linear like that of Devil May Cry?s mission type or will it be more along the lines of Assassin's Creed?

The gameplay in The Force Unleashed follows a linear progression system.

UPDATE APRIL 8, 2008

Will the Wii version of the game have destructible environments?

Keep in mind that in all versions of the game, certain parts of the environment can be destroyed, such as using the Force to blow metal doors that are hindering your progression. But, keep in mind, TFU isn't going to be featuring 100% destructible environments. While it's a neat idea, being able to completely decimate your environment poses a few gameplay issues. Rest assured, though, you'll be able to do the same sorts of things in the Wii version.

Will there be a soundtrack released for the game and will there be a limited edition version?

I've heard the soundtrack and the music is awesome. But, I can tell you that there will be no separate soundtrack release, nor will there be a limited edition version of the game.

What's the deal with PROXY and Juno? what sort of roles do they play in the overall scope of the game?

I can't go into specifics about each character, but rest assured that they both play very major roles in the storyline.

Is there dismemberment in the game?

For the record, there is no dismemberment in the game.

Will there be different difficulty levels, and will be get a new web doc soon?

Yes...and yes.

When can we expect the "Coming Soon" section on the TFU website to go live?

All in good time! Expect regular updates to the TFU website as the September release date approaches.

I noticed in a video that some blaster shots left marks on the ground. Does that mean DMM is applied to the ground?

To keep everyone's TFU experience exciting when they play the game, I can't get into deep details on every single object that is infused with DMM. But, I can say that the team is dedicated to creating a Star Wars game that is first and foremost fun. DMM is a technology that is being utilized to that end, but is by no means the only exciting feature in The Force Unleashed.

Will the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game have offline or online co-op?

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will not have cooperative play.

Does the PSP version have DMM or euphoria?

The PSP version doesn't have DMM or euphoria, but developer Krome Studios has done an excellent job of making the PSP experience as fun as all of the other versions of the game. Having seen what's in store for everyone out there on the PSP, I can say that PSP gamers out there should be very excited.

Well there you go, that's it for today. Be sure to post more questions in the official "ask a question" thread and I'll answer more tomorrow! And please, be patient if I didn't answer your question this time around.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

What are those green orbs we can see in some of the gameplay clips?

Those green orbs are health.

How long after Episode III does the game take place?

I can't really get into very detailed day and date specifics, but the storyline in TFU picks up pretty much where Episode III leaves off.

Do your lightsaber attacks leave marks on walls and objects?

Good question, but I'll have to check with the team on this one. Stay tuned for an official answer!

Will there be a demo?

I can't make any promises on this one, but I do know the team wants to put out a demo. Whether a demo is released, however, is still TBD. Once I hear any news about one, you all will be the first to know!

How many endings are there?

Sorry, I can't divulge the number of endings at this point.

How come some of your previous answers had "?" in the place of apostrophes?

Those got put in my responses from cutting and pasting some text. No hidden message or deep-rooted conspiracy. Move along, nothing to see here.

Seriously, why can't we have dismemberments?

Why I don't have an official answer on this issue, I'll ask the team for a comment. Stay tuned for more info on the issue!

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Will you be able to save videos of cool Force power deaths and combos?

As far as I know, the game doesn't support in-game video capture.

Are you really, really sure that there's no multiplayer on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions?

Yep, I'm positive.

What sort of in-game camera does the game have?

The in-game camera is easy to use and allows the player to swivel it 360 degrees.

Can you give us a hint of a level, or a level that has "sandbox" type gameplay?

I wish I could, but I can't divulge any level-specific details right now. All I can say is that each level is packed with fun things to do, whether it's fighitng enemies and wielding your lightsaber and Force powers, or using those Force powers to solve some nicely put together puzzles.

Just how much of the environment is destructible? Will my lightsaber leave marks on everything? Will I be able to blast my way through every wall and barrier in the game?

I've answered this before, but it still keeps getting asked quite a bit. So, just to reiterate, the lightsaber will leave some superficial marks on certain objects, but you won't be able to run through a room and literally paint the walls with lightsaber burns. Also, while it would have been great to have a game where the Secret Apprentice could Force push his way through every single wall and barrier in the game, that sort of formula raises a lot of gameplay issues.

Will the Wii version feature Duel Mode against the computer?

No, the Wii version will only have multiplayer for player-versus-player.

Will the Secret Apprentice's powers change is he chooses the Light side of the Force?

Hm, not really sure how to answer this one other than that this game is being focused on delivering a kick-ass action/adventure experience. As such, there isn't a Light/Dark side of the Force mechanic a la KOTOR.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Does the Secret Apprentice ever get to use a jetpack?

While you do get to fight some enemies that have jetpacks, the Secret Apprentice doesn't get a jetpack for himself.

Will the Xbox 360 version have achievements?

Yep, the 360 version will have achiements, and from what I've seen, they're clever and fun to get. As to what they are specifically, I can't get into that. :)

Will LucasArts move the release date up?

Right now the team is committed to making The Force Unleashed one heck of a great game. And, we're sticking with our release date of September 16th.

Which version of the game is best?

No version of the game, in my opinion, is better than another. For next-gen console owners, you get DMM and euphoria, two great technologies that really add an exciting amount of depth to the game. In the Wii version, you get the Awesome Duel Mode. In the PS2 version you get five bonus levels and in the PSP version you get the special Historical Missions and multiplayer. And, in the DS, you get an intuitive and extremely fun touch-screen gameplay mechanic that allows you to do some really cool things when it comes to lightsaber combat and using your Force powers. No matter what platform you own, you're getting some very cool features.

Can the game be saved manually, or is it done so at auto-checkpoints?

The game employs a checkpoints system and autosaves.

Can you replay missions?

Yep, you can replay missions!

Will we see the jump to hyperspace from inside, or outside the ship?

Sorry, but you don't get to pilot the Rogue Shadow.

Will there be any hidden unlockables from playing through and completing each of the alternate endings?

While I can't confirm the what they are, I can say that the game will have bonuses and unlockables.

Will we get: "A Long Time ago..." at the beginning, followed by an opening crawl?

Well, pretty much every single Star Wars game has started with one... :)

How cool do Artoo and 3PO look, or shiny droids in general, on the NexGen consoles?

Those aren't the droids you're looking for (meaning - they're not in TFU).

Is there going to be a more story centered trailer (or any new trailer)? If so, any idea when?

I can say that there will be a new one for everyone's viewing pleasure. But, I'm not too sure on the exact date when it will release.

How many lightsaber colors and cystals are there?

I wish I could give out an exact number, but right now I have to keep that info classified. I can say, however, that the customization options are deep enough to help you customize your lightsaber in some pretty cool ways.

How many different types of Stormtroopers are there?

Hm, that's a tough one. I can't say for sure how many different Stormtroopers there are off the bat, but there are a wide number of different enemies in the game, incluidng some brand-new ones never seen before. You've all probably seen a few of them in the video's we've released, but trust me in that there are a some really cool new ones.

If you toss a Stormtrooper onto the edge of cliff along with another, will one try to crawl up the body of the one hanging?

Wow, that's complicated! Well, I haven't seen that exact scenario in action, so I wouldn't discount it completely. I do think, however, if that you're going to toss someone over the edge of a cliff, you'll make sure they don't get a chance to save themself. :)

To what extent will the npc's react aside from the euphoria?

Enemies react realistically to their situations, so if you Force Grab them and ram them into a wall, they're going to scream when they impact and even when you're dangling them in the air. But, the real magic is in the behaviors and watching how the enemies really react to what's going on around them. They dive for cover, try to grab onto objects to avoid being Force Grabbed and generally do whatever they can to save themselves.

Phew.

What are the boss bottles like? Are they epic?

Each boss battle is different from the others, making each one a very unique experience. Expect lots of action and some fights that take place in environments with multiple areas. That's about all I can say right now, but I'm confident everyone will have a blast with the bosses.

So, what's the deal with the multplayer. Does no multiplayer mean no online multiplayer, or does it mean no split-screen offline multiplayer?

No multiplayer means no multiplayer, both online and split-screen.

Any chance seeing a new video highlighting some new levels?

Most certainly. We'll be rolling out new videos soon, so be sure to keep checking for their release.

Can you tell us the breakdown of achievement points for the Xbox 360 version?

I wish I could, but I can't divulge any information on the achievements or the breakdown between storyline-based achievements, etc.

Will the ending be like KOTOR's, where your actions can ultimately change the way the game ending plays out?

Keep in mind, The Force Unleashed is not KOTOR. I can confirm that there are multiple endings, but I can't divulge what they are in-detail. Also, TFU isn't built like KOTOR, which featured the good/evil sort of gameplay mechanic.

What about a demo? When is it coming out?

The TFU team is very interested in getting a demo out to the public before the game launches. But as far as a firm release date or how the demo willb e distributed, I don't have any updates. But rest assured, we want to give players the chance to experience TFU before it releases to retail, so a demo is very much on our list of priorities.

Do you have unlimited Force powers?

No, while the Force powers you have are over-the-top, they're not completely unlimited. You do have a Force Power bar, which depletes when you use your powers. But, it does regenerate, so you'll never be too far off from having access to your powers.

OK, so we can't dismember enemies. But, can we dismember droids?

Hm, that's an interesting question. I've only seen a few droids in the game so far and have yet to see a Protocol-type Droid be dismembered. But I can say that you can slice a Power Convertor (or Goink) Droid in two. :)

But the question GhostShoes asks raises another question: has it been confirmed that the Force Grip power that we have in TFU cannot be powered-up to choke level the way we could in other Jedi Knight games (e.g. Jedi Academy and Outcast)? In other words, in previous games, the power was called Grip, but when you spent enough points on the Grip power, it would choke your opponents.

Actually, Darth Vader alone possesses the power to use Force Choke. The Secret Apprentice gets the wonderfully crispy power of Force Lightning.

If you attack a Stormtrooper, will his helmet pop off his head?

Nope, sorry. Helmets are going to stay firmly planed on top of Stormtrooper heads.

How do the multiplayer characters differ?

The multiplayer characters differ tremendously, most notably that each one has their own specific strengths and weaknesses. One character might be more powerful with lightsaber attacks, while be weaker when using Force Lightning. Another character, though, might be very powerful when it comes to Force Lightning, but weaker when it comes to close combat with a lightsaber.
