Error 1316 is an irritating installation error. It pops up when a software is being installed, uninstalled or repaired on your computer. You may get the following description while seeing this error: Error 1316:
"A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: :\Install.msi"
Follow the following guidelines to fix this error:
1. Use Windows Installer Clean Up
2. Use a Registry Fixing Utility
3. Change Windows Installer Registry Information
4. Check the Security Details of the Concerning File
you can also get some help from this article to fix * error 1316 windows 7 *

Thanks for taking the time to post this, Ive yet to hear from LA.
This worked with one exception, I received Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Windows\installer\lego star wars II.msi
This was solved by using the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, ran this then the patch and the game finally installed correctly.
Again, Thanks!

I solved it the same way, with one change--it was a different CAB file on the CD. Thanks for the super helpful post!
Here's what I did (Windows XP Home Edition):
1. Start Windows Explorer by typing Windows-E.
2. Find your Lego Star Wars CD in your CD drive.
3. Search for GameExplorerHelper on the CD, making sure to have it search all hidden files and folders. (On mine it was in LSW2_G~1.cab)
4. Drag the lsw2_gameexplorerhelper.dll file into the Windows folder on your hard drive.
5. Run the CD installer again. This time the uninstall should work correctly.
6. Run the CD installer again to re-install the game.

I solved the problem like this:
1. Start Windows Explorer by typing Windows-E.
2. Find your Lego Star Wars CD in your CD drive.
3. Double-click Defaul~1.cab in the root of the CD to open it. (You may need to install some sort of program that opens cabs. I think the freeware 7-Zip will do it if Windows won't.)
4. Find the lsw2_gameexplorerhelper.dll file. Click and drag it into the Windows folder on your hard drive.
5. Rerun the installation or uninstallation and it will work.

just downloaded the patch AGAIN just to see if if my copy of the patch had
been corrupted.
Sure enough the installation failed again. The computer still thinks the game is
installed despite no physical traces of it on my hard disk. I can't find any
traces of it in the registry either so no clue why it is still not installing
and thinks I need to remove the game.
I, and I am sure many other users would love it if Lucasarts released another new
version of the game that had all these problems worked out with the installer.
Just how hard is it to rewrite an installation script Surely it isn't that
hard. It's only scripting and some minor code... And give registered users this
updated game on a brand new CD for the hassle of buying this dodgy product.
IS THERE ANYWHERE WE CAN LODGE A FORMAL PROTEST?

Hi
I've seen this in other threads, but could never find an answer. I want to reinstall the game after an uninstall, but the installer thinks the games is still there - it asks me to uninstall, I reply YES, but then it freezes with the error message Error Number: 0x80040702 Description: Failed to load DLL: LSW2_GameExplorerHelper.
Has someone ever seen a solution to this?
THANKS

I have almost the same problem. When I want to start the game there appears that you have to install the game and after asking "save saving games" the computers says
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL:
LSW2_GameExplorerHelper
Setup will now terminate
But before, there was something strange too. When I played the free game, the buttons of different functions (I don't remember which ones, but "use an object" was one of them) is an "change character"-button. However, first look to reinstall the game... Has somebody had that button yet.

I had the problem where clicking to start the game would do essentially nothing, even though the game worked fine for about a week. I wound up downloading a copy of the executable from gamecopyworld, which I'm fine with, seeing as how I legally own the game. Immediately, I was able to play the game again. I also had tried the patch, which installed fine, but the game still wouldn't start. Now, I'm playing, albeit with other problems. I have to say - I had ..no.. problems with lsw, which was made apparently by 'Giant' software, but have had problems with lsw2, which is by lucasarts. Although I like the games, I've had problems with battlefront 1 and 2, albeit minor, and it makes lucasarts feel like microsoft, where there's an endless trail of patches and fixes to make their software work.....maybe I'm wrong in my summary, I don't know.

I too am still getting errors with both 1.01 and 1.02 patches, except now error codes are different ones (1334 and 1335). And guess what, I cant return the game either or get my money back. Thanks LA, I know it must be hard writing a program to copy files onto a computer! >: (

It seemed like the unistall did not complete
correctly, so I did a System Restore to a point
before September 12, a point before any Lego Star
Wars II software was installed. After restoring my
system to that point, the 1.01 install patch worked
fine and I no longer got the error noted below.
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL:
LSW2_GameExplorerHelper
Setup will now terminate.
I have this same problem but unfortunatly I cannot do a system restore. Does anybody have another solution to this problem?

You could have just used the installer on
gamecopyworld and forgot about the pirated executable
as it is able to install the game properly and you
don't seem to have problems running downloaded
executables.
I think the problem is that a fixed installer that
works exists since the second day into this mess
while it is taking LA so long to solve the issue for
everyone. Maybe they should go download it themselves
and analyze it?
No. I couldn't have. As I stated, my problem had nothing to do with installation. After the game installed successfully, it would not execute at all. The hacked installer did NOTHING to fix that problem. I know because I tried it.

When I try the offical patch, the install tstarts fine and gets to the language question. Once I click OK for English, then it comes up with the message to uninstall the game.
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL: LSW2_GameExplorerHelper
Setup will now terminate.
I did have both the Demo program and the user patch installed. I first uninstalled the Demo through the control panel remove programs, then tried the same thing with the full star wars version, but it never got fully uninstalled. When I try to reinstall, I get the above error message.

I find this next statement so laughable as to be grotesque. I had to resort to downloading a PIRATED executable to solve the problem I was having (game installed, but would not execute. Couldn't even execute the "Launch Analysis" to feed to the idiots at Securom.)
Why did I have to resort to PIRATED software? Because SECUROM was causing me to NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE SOFTWARE I LEGALLY PURCHASED.
I find it highly ironic that code implemented with the purpose of stopping software piracy is causing customers to NEED pirated software in order to use the product they legally purchased.
LucasArts: Dump Securom. It doesn't stop software piracy. Never has. Never will. It will only increase your support costs dramatically...and it won't be the pirates calling you.
