i am in contac with secuerom. and so far i can play the game now. but i cant launch the game with a user that got administrator rights.
so if you got that problem login as a guest account on your pc. and you are good to play. this is just a temporary solution. but at least we can play.
DT is not the cause - at least not for on my comp. I installed it using the DVD and DT was running. I've had this problem once when i had loaded some image in DT. Upon unloading that image the error didn't occur any more.
So you can have DT installed just make sure no emulation is active / or disable all drives.
Emulation software is not the issue - I have DT 4 running on my laptop and the game works fine.
My main PC had no Daemon Tools and the game would not work after update - the update also updates the version of securerom (never noticed this on the release notes) and the new version of securerom has a problem with certain DVDRW drives my own TSS corp for one.
Notice I said "had" no Daemon tools - now it has and I am running the game from an image on the HD and I can update and play.
I do think it is ironic that the security causing so many problems is bypassable by the very tools the security package is designed to thwart. That tells me that the only people with problems with this game are the genuine customers (myself included) not the yo ho ho and a bottle of rum crowd.
I did update the firmware but to no avail... I have now emailed SecuROM who got back to me asking for more detail. I gave them plenty of detail so I'm not sure where I'll get with them. They did say however that the game is clearing the protection without any errors. Still doesn't run, though. Most annoying. I'll let you know what they say.
I don't have Daemon or any other virtual drives of any kind. I don't even have Nero on this particular computer and never have had so registry items won't be left there. It seems more than a coincidence that two people are having the same problem with the very same model of DVD drive.
Uninstall any CD drive emulation programs you might have ie: Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools. You may need to delete the entried these programs make in your registry. If you don't know what you are doing in registry editor then i suggest you don't mess with it.
I had the problem for a while, until I noticed that the game defaults to the lowest letter CD/DVD drive on your machine. Make sure your CD is in the lowest drive letter optical drive you have. Regardless of which drive you used to install with. I installed it with my F drive but it demands it be in my E drive or I get this error. Go figure.
Suppose the funny thing here is that the copy I got off the internet (I bought the game, it's shipped and in transit, but I wanted to play it NOW!) I burned the first CD to a CD and I get a "Please insert the original disc" error occasionally, every other time the game starts.... Great copy protection for my temporary CD to work while some peoples permanent ones don't....
I swear though, if this CD is more reliable than the actual one when I get it, I'll be pissed....
Edit: One thing I've found that helps a bit is to let the drive spin down and wait a couple moments and try again... Seems to always fail when it's already spinning....
Same problem here bought the game yesterday. After installing the game ran fine but after installing patch 1.01 it wouldn't run anymore got the same message:
*Wrong disc inserted.
Please insert the original "SWEAW CD/DVD"*
Reinstalled the game without the patch an it ran fine. Even formatted my HD and reinstalled XP and the game. Installed patch 1.02 same problem it wouldn't run!
It has something to do with the dvd writer and the copy protection that's one thing i'm sure of. I've got a Samsung DVD writer TS-H552U with the latest firmware installed. I hope Lucas Arts solves this extremely irritating problem soon!
I get this message occasionally myself. In my case, removing the cd, re-inserting and playing from the pop-up window that auto-runs... worked for me. Or just choose "play" a 2nd time does the trick on occasion too.
