I know this sounds crazy and incredibly ignorant, I just happened to be bored which is why I tried it and I don't know of a logical explanation as to why it works but I have been able to run the game on Vista.
What I did was launch the game repeatedly, about 2 dozen times, getting the same error each time when it launched correctly. This was after messing with compatibility settings to no avail and setting them back to default but not being ready to give up just yet. It takes the same number of attempts (more or less) each time I try to play but it does eventually launch. If it won't work once, what would be different to let it work on another try?
If you feel like giving it a shot, I would really like to know if this can possibly be due to the same incompatibility in both operating systems and if the same "fix" ,if it can be called that, would work.

i've been trying to get it to work on vista for others, but run into the same problem, and for some reason, nothing works.
i'll let you knwo when i find anything, though.
for now you might want to try setting the compatability to xp or 2000/me (rightclick on the .exe, properties, compatability), see if that works.

KOTOR 1 worked fine for me. The second crashes after I load the tutorial, though.

I would think that this may be a Windows problem. The same thing happened with Vista. It took some time to for us to get a file that let us to play KOTOR's under Vista.

i am running the following...
i have windows 7 home premium...just upgraded from windows vista.
my processor is Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz, 1833 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
my vid card
Intel GMA X3100
i have 3gb of ram
and a 250gb harddrive
is there any other information that would help?

so i just go windows 7 for my laptop and now kotor 1 wont work at all.
does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
