It should work on a dualboot, yes(i can't guarantee it 100%, though, since technology and scripting do have their faults.). If you plan to install any other games from before Vista came out, you might indeed want to consider a dualboot with XP, since they just work so much better on XPSP3.

Well, all newer gmes shouldn't have a problem running, since they were made to run on vista/7 as well. But it's the old games that have issues. (there's a 30 step guide just to get Kotor2 running...)

Ah, Fallout 3. There are some fixes out there that help. But it does limit the game to only 2 cores. (I assume you've found that already, it's the first hit on google if you type in "fallout 3 quadcore". :p )

So running a multi-boot system should work? buy a copy of windows xp and wam! everything works? I am just shocked because this and fallout 3 are the only two games that I have that don't work on full settings even though I have more than the recommended requirements. (fallout 3 does not like quad-core processors)

Yes and No. For this game, your hardware should be fine. Your operating system is incompatable.

Sadly enough, you will run into these issues with quite a lot of pre-vista games. There is such a thing as too new.

Please I don't want to sound rude but; the game doesn't work because I have superior hardware ?!? So you're saying that short of buying an antiquated system there is nothing that can be done? I want to be able to see this game at its best, I spent over $700 to buy my current system and would like to play this old but rather good game.

Compatability mode doesn't work the way you think it does. The core of Vista and W7 is different from XP. It can't be emulated by ticking a box.

This game has known problems with the shader detail settings on several videocards and systems. It's even in the original FAQ. There's no known solution.

okay isn't that what compatibility mode is for? (not that it matters I've played the game with and without compatibility for windows XP Sp2 I still can't change either of the settings and in game Fps stays the same.) I am just saying that there has to be a solution. I figured out how to get it to run in the first place so I don't care how hard it is, I want to play the game the way it was made to be played.

(A small edit) I said that 65 Fps is what I was averaging in game 65 is the lowest I have seen, my average is more like 80-85 Fps and the highest I've seen is 129 Fps on all max settings except water, and shaders of course.

I have the same problem with shader and water settings every other setting I can set on max.
My build is Intel Core i5-2410m 2.30GHz x 4 CPUs, 4Gb ddr3 1600MHz RAM, ATI Radeon HD 6650m
1Gb of dedicated ddr3 ram Pixel Shader 5.0, OS windows 7 64bit. I get 65 frames a second (known via Fraps program) on current settings, but I would like to be able to turn water and shaders up to max.

You're not by any chance using an Nvidia Geforce 3 series videocard, are you?

I quote, from the official lucasarts helpdesk:

Q: NVIDIA GeForce3 and Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption A: When playing Star Wars Empire at
War: Forces of Corruption on a graphics card with this chipset, you may
experience the following issues:

  1. Selecting Bloom in the Advanced Video Options menu will not enable the bloom effect.
  2. _You will be unable to adjust the Water Detail or Shader Detail sliders. _
  3. The Antialiasing slider will not be available in the Video Options menu.
  4. You may see graphic corruption or HUD elements may be
misaligned when you zoom the camera out and back in when the Texture
Detail slider is set to High in the Advanced Video Options menu and the
Detail Level slider is set to Max in the Video Options menu. This does
not occur when Detail Level is set to a lower setting.
  5. You will be unable to set the Shader Detail slider to Max.
  6. Selecting Soft Shadows in the Advanced Video Options menu will not enable Soft Shadows.
  7. Selecting Heat Distortion toggle will not enable Heat
Distortion. This occurs because Heat Distortion effects do not render
when the Shader Detail slider is set below the max setting.
  8. You will not see grass display on land environments at any position of the Environment Detail slider.

My computer has better hardware than is required for FoC, but I can't set the water or shader detail to high. Every time I slide the bar over and hit accept, it resets both to the lowest possible level. I have everything else enabled or on the highest possible setting, but water and shader detail refuse to move. Whenever I change everything else from highest to lowest or back again, it still looks the same. Once more; the sliders for water and shader detail will not stay at high detail.
Anyone know why this is happening, or how to I can force it to high detail?
