I love Lucasarts but it seems to be going downhill here lately. I have been a fan since the beginning. The 6 starwars unanimated movies were great! But now we have animated series and i dont want to watch that. I want the high def. super cool effects of the star wars movies. I hate all the animated crap that i keep seeing on tv. I mean come on, look at movies like avitar and transformers! Why cant Lucasarts go back to doing movies and games like that! And we need to get some new games out there. BF3, TFU3! Come on Lucasarts! Don't throw away a fan base that you have had for years! The ethics of work today suck. Most people are outright lazy and dont do things right. If you dont take the time to do things right, dont do it at all! People are so lazy America is falling apart!

Great,i thought that the next game will be cancelled in 2012,not 2010.
Seriously whats wrong with Lucasarts?Looks like every new Lucasarts president is worse then previous. As i remember the last good game of Lucasarts was Republic Commando, back to 2005...
UPD:I didnt liked The Force Unleashed gameplay on next/current-gen consoles(PS3) but story was good, what i cant say about Clone Wars tv series.Looks like Star Wars becoming complete "censored" from year to year...

Hey, the presidents keep on getting worse. It sounds alot like today's politics lolololol I hope that this is simply a rumor. It probably is unless the pres. is just a moron, which I suppose is equally likely. Oh well. With all this crap going on it seems that LA is "a broken shadow of its former self" lol

p.s. Not referring to anyone in this thread, but don't start saying that TFU2 will suck because people are being laid off before the game is out.
A. The same exact thing happened before the first game.
B. You(the person who says this) never gave the game a chance in the first place and just using this news to justify your ignorance.
LOL! Way to preempt the naysayers Gregorius93.
Yeah, it's really unfortunate for those people that got let go. This does however seem to track with what the last two LucasArts presidents did shortly after they started. Maybe it's a requirement or some kind of contractual obligation for a new LucasArts president to cut headcount within the first 6 months of his tenure.
Im glad you didnt get fired

Oh, I know that they need TFU3, but does LA know that they need TFU3? That's what matters.

TFU2 will sell well. Not as well as the first(mainly because people who hated the first game are too blind to see any differences in TFU2), but the game will sell copies.
I think it will depend more on if LA feels that the series needs closure or do they need to move with another series.

I really think that no matter how many people they've laid off, or how much they're "cutting back", the one thing that will determine whether or not they make a TFU III is whether or not TFU II sells. Plain and simple. Isn't that how this industry has always worked? They're still a business that wants to make money, and If they see that they're is money to be made with another TFU game, they'll make it. It all hinges on the success or failure of this game IMO. Am I wrong?

I can't edit my previous post, so...
Same thing from IGN.com
LucasArts has confirmed to IGN the company issued layoff notices today.
A spokesperson would not comment on the number of employees let go, but an unconfirmed report from Kotaku suggests over 30% of the studio was shown the door.
"LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing," a company representative said.
"LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio – and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners – in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."
The company has been the center of attention the past few months. Paul Meegan replaced Darrell Rodriguez as president of the company in June, and Force Unleashed II producer Haden Blackman resigned in late July.
In August, former Ubisoft Montreal creative director Clint Hocking joined LucasArts to develop an unannounced project.
Well...That doesn't sound very good. Although LucasArts did layoff people after TFU and we ended up with TFU II. Hopefully the rumor that TFU III is canceled is not true. If it is true, then maybe TFU II will (hopefully) be very successful and they will reconsider. Although it would be weird if it's not Haden Blackman's story. But I guess he doesn't have to be working for LucasArts. They could just bring him in as a writer for TFU III and not a project lead, since he left LucasArts.
Either way...At least we have TFU II for now. Hopefully we'll see more Star Wars games in the future.

Star Wars game developer LucasArts has confirmed to Kotaku that it's making cutbacks at its internal studios today. Word from those affected by LucasArts layoffs indicating deep cuts.
One former LucasArts developer, let go from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II team, called today's round of layoffs a "massacre," with an estimated 60 people let go from development and 25 from external production and QA getting the employment vibro-ax. The Force Unleashed II was said to have "gone gold" last Friday in time for its mid-September release date.
LucasArts wouldn't specify current headcount at the studio or how many developers were let go today, but did offer confirmation on the reduction.
"LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing," reads a statement from the company. "LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio – and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners – in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."

Whoever wrote the article made a mistake about TFU II's release date. Obviously...

I asked my friend whos a producer on TFU2 and he said they don't comment on rumors about unannounced games, which leads me to believe it's untrue.

ep. 4-6 should be an adventure game, instead of some kind of action game.
i think they should develop games in other eras, like KotOR or Legacy era.

I think a 3rd installment would be stretching this story too far, Instead of FU 3 why not make EPISODES 1-6 in a similar fashion using the same game engine.
I actually thought the EPS 3 ROTS game was quite good in many ways, was fun to play key battles from the Movies. (& they would definately sell)

i think if there is any trust in the article, than the project just sleep a bit, until the 2nd game's release. they would be fools if they are working on the sequel of a failed game.

Have No idea what happened but it seems I can't edit my last post.
But like most of the poeple said, It's only a rumor. No Official Word. I wonder how it would affect it they really won't get from external Companies. Will it turn Good? Or will it be a Disaster?

Sounds to me like someone is assuming control and trying to reestablish Lucasarts into a top publisher once again. Or someone completely destroying the company and its chance at profit. I'm not at all upset about TFUIII's cancellation, but I am upset about the no more external developments idea. Some of the best Star Wars games were developed externally.
